The hustle and bustle of the town marketplace was driving me insane. I loathed being around a lot of people. I was wearing my long work dress, it was clean so I didn't care. I carried a basket in my hand, filled with numerous groceries and such, including meat. Even though I could go catch my own food, I had always pretended I was human. No one knew I was really a shapeshifter, nor the fact in reality I was over two centuries old.

I smiled at the baker, and ordered a loaf of his bread. It was the best bread in Alvidia. I went to place it in my bag, and found a small hand reaching in there and taking a bunch of bananas. "Get back here!" I yelled, chasing the young pickpocket, who looked about eight, down the street. I could've easily caught him by shifting into something, but I never shifted unless I was alone. So, I tried to catch him as a human.

I woke up with a voice in the distance. My ears pricked at four running feet, some closer than the others. I peeked out of the nearby alley and spotted a boy I knew running, woman chasing him. I ran on all fours toward the boy. He probably didn't reconize me, because he stopped and stared at me.

I growled and leaped for the food. In mind leap, I shifted back to human, grabbing it from him. "You don't steal very well, your not supose to let anyone catch you." I teased. I walked to the other lady and tossed her the banannas. "Sorry about that." I smiled like a gentalman, covering up the boy.

"Thanks," I murmurred as I caught the bananas in my hands and put them into my bag, "I didn't need your help, you know." It was true, I could've caught him. I brushed off my dress, not paying much mind to the boy. He looked about 18, like me. The only difference was I was 203 years old. "You're a shapeshifter, how cute." I snarled as I began to walk away.

The heard the baker talking to the shapeshifter. "It'd be useless trying to get her to fall for you, boy. Better men than you have failed trying." He said as I smirked. It was true, I didn't believe in love, and I wasn't about to start.

I growled a little bit at her 'how cute' comment. How dare she call me cute. I guess it didn't matter to me. "Most people around here are shapeshifters. Your the one that sticks out of the crowd." I told her in as a matter of fact.

At first, she I thought she was a vampire. Vampires have looks that make everyone attracted to them. But then she wouldn't be here. Just a really good looking human.

Then again, I was insulted by the freaking baker. "Maybe I'll be the better man." I mumbled, annoyed. I ran and caught up with her, standing in front of her, "That true?" I asked.

I looked at him, rolling my eyes. "Yes, it is. Too many men to count, none of them succeeding obviously." I strolled around him, not paying any mind to him. I checked my list of groceries, I had almost everything.

I heard the shopkeepers chuckle as I waved and smiled at them. They weren't laughing at me, they were laughing at my tag-along. They were familiar with the sight of seeing a hopeless boy follow me around the marketplace. They also knew it was a lost cause to try and win me over.

I could bet that she never met someone like me. I knew that for sure. Of course I wasn't going to give in. I had nothing to lose. She was a super preety girl. Lets see if I can tame her.

I ran ahead of her like the last time. "What were the majority of them like?" I asked, acting like I wasn't impressed. In a way, I wasn't, but in another, I was.

I heard the shopkeepers and rolled my eyes at them. They must've gotten this all the time, but not from a homeless boy.

I thought for a moment, then spoke. "Persistant, over-confident, lovestruck. Pretty much you, in simpler form." I continued to walk ahead of him, keeping my pace brisk.

I stopped at my final place, the flower stand."Good morning Miss Angelina, how may I help a pretty young woman like yourself today?" The shopkeeper chimed. He was an older man, always happy. "Hello Mr. Saunters, just the usual." I smiled as I gave him a coin and he handed me a bouquet of freesias. "Thank you, Mr.Saunters. They're beautiful, as always. I'll see you soon." I placed them in my bag before heading off to the edge of the square.

I heard Mr.Saunters talking to the shapeshifting, persistant boy. "Here, give this to her. She's always loved roses." He told him as he handed him a rose. He probably thought I couldn't overhear, but shapeshifters have very good senses. I smiled, Mr.Saunters was like my father, always wanted me to be happy. Sometimes he meddled a little too much for his own good

I was about to respond when she started to run away...again. I hated to look desperate and like I was following her, but thats exactally what I was doing. I sighed, about to give up when the flower guy gave me a rose.

I stared at his bizarlly. The rest of the people said I had no chance, this one was trying to get me to be with her. I looked at the red rose in my hand. How was I to approch this. I didn't want to just go right up to her and go 'here is a flower please date me.' I didn't know another way to do it though.

I walked up to her, yet again, giving her the rose, "Fine, you won this time, but take this, and remember me. I'll always be around, all you have to do is look." With that I gently turned into a snake, scurring away into the shadows...

I raised an eyebrow after he took off. "Well that's only a little creepy, now I've got a stalker. Great." I sighed frustratedly as I made my way to the house. It was far from the village, just along the main path and then a turn down a long, winding forest path.

I was greeted at the small cottage by Dorado. He licked my hand as I went inside, putting away the things I had bought, even the rose. I went back outside, tending to Sephora. Sephora was a grey quarterhorse, a stubborn one at that. I knew I couldn't shapeshift, for all I knew that boy could be anywhere. So until I got rid of him or he got bored I would have to stay in human form.

I mounted Sephora, I had forgotten something at the market I needed to buy. I rode her to the town, then tied her up at the rail before going back into town. I had forgotten to buy some apples for Sephora, and I thought I might as well get a bone for Dorado while I was here.

"Good morning, I'm back!" I smiled at the butcher. "Forget something for your dog, miss?" He joked as he handed me a bone, which I put in my basket. He always had extras. I thanked him then went to pick up the apples, which was on the other side of the market.

Honestly, I didn't know what I was really doing or why, but thats what I was doing. I felt sort of stalkerish, it was creepy. Ugh, nothing in my life is ever right! I thought, turning back into a robin bird, flying to sorrow to myself on a high building.

Thats when I spotted her again. No mistakes this time. I swooped down like a hawk, landing in front of her, turning back to human again. "Miss me?" I smirked.

I didn't jump when he landed in front of me. I figured it was him anyways. "No," I said emotionlessly, "But feel free to leave now." I continued to walk over to the grocery cart.

"Good morning, Miss Angelina." Mrs.Tucks greeted me pleasantly, "Looks like you've found yourself another admirer." I smiled and greeted her back. "Yes, again. I don't get why men must be so persistant. Why bother chasing what they know they won't ever get?" She just smiled back then looked at the boy. "This one's a nice boy, Clint, I believe his name is. He's a roamer, I've heard talk of him. And deary, it's the over-confidence." She winked at me, handing me a bag of apples. I waved goodbye, then started to walk towards the other side of the square again to get Sephora.

Well, obviously, this isn't working...try something else. I thought to myself. I walked to where she just turned around, her facing me. "Look, sorry I've been approaching the wrong way. I'm Clint." He smiled, at least hoping to know her name.

I stopped. Did he just... apoligize? No guy had ever apologized before. 'No, get a hold of yourself Angie,' I thought to myself. "I'm Angelina, I accept the apology, and I'm not interested in you." I continued to walk around him, but he continued to follow. "Why must you continue being so persistant? You should give up, I don't believe in love so you're wasting your time." I turned to say to him, then continued walking.

At least she didn't laugh at me. Oh duh, shoopkeepers were saying her name over and over... I guess I wasn't paying attention to them, trying to ignore them more that listen. I walked beside her, trying a different point of approaching again. "Lets see, your a beautiful girl and I'm here to prove I'm not like other guys."

I kept up a faster pace, trying to lose him. "Yes, the rest of the men have said that. And that's the problem with you men, you know nothing about me yet you're trying to get me to fall for you. Well you should really stop trying." I continued to walk ahead of him, I never looked at him. He had been the most persistant man I'd ever met. I walked to Sephora, setting my basket down and petting her. "You know you happen to be the most stubborn guy I've ever met... do you ever take no for an answer?" I asked, still not looking at him. The shopkeepers continued to chuckle at the boy. They knew I wasn't going to fall for him... or so I thought.

"I can bet you I'm not the same at the other men." I smiled. I kept up with her pace well, then she turned to face me. "I don't take no for an answer. I'm not usually like this. Your special." I answered, actually liking my answer this time.

I rolled my eyes. "Now how many times have I heard that before? My answer, too many to count." I just sighed. I picked up the basket and took the reigns, I was walking. I didn't feel like riding back. He was probably going to keep following me.

She was right on, I did follow her. "Yeah probably." I said beside her. I looked at her pet. "What it's name?" I asked. I never really took a ton of interest in horses, but I did take some. I could shift into one anyways. I didn't enjoy being a horse. So big and heavy, it wasn't very contrable.

"Sephora." I said, emotionless. I had an idea to get rid of him. I pulled him closer to me, kissing him passionatley. Then I pushed him away. "Will you leave me alone now?" I snarled, then continued to walk forward. So many things had gone through my mind. For one, I actually felt something when I kissed him, and I enjoyed it. But I wasn't going to fall for another guy, they did nothing but hurt a girl like me. So, I'd stop listening to my stupid heart and listen to my common sense.

I could defentailly say that I wasn't expecting that. "Nice name." I mumbled, still a little thought. She started walking away and I touched my lips. That was a little more magical that I expected. I mean, I expected something...but not this much of something.

I looked back. He was stunned. Obviously he had felt something too. I smiled at him before continuing to walk. I had gotten home around nightfall, putting away the things I had and then sat down at my kitchen table. There was a candle going, and plenty of light. I looked at my flowers, and the one rose among the purple freesias. I took it out, looking at it and sighing. 'Damnit... I think I like him...' I thought, smiling.

I walked back the next day to the market, with a list of things I really could've waited another few days to get. I just liked being around him, I wasn't going to tell him I liked him, though. I'd try avoiding my feelings for a bit. "Good morning Mrs.Tucks." I greeted her happily. "Good morning, Miss Angelina. That boy came back here with a stunned look on his face, you know. He's around here somewhere. I'm pretty sure as soon as you show up, all the boys take notice." I just laughed, "He's very persistant, you know. More so than the others that have tried... and failed miserably." She smiled, "Well, let him have his fun. If I know you, then that boy has no chance." I just sighed. 'She doesn't know me that well then,' I thought as she handed me the grapes I had asked for and then I turned and left, looking around the marketplace.

The next day, I woke up in my wolf form again. I usually slept in that form, it was the warmest. I heard a voice above me, once I turned into human. "I think you stole something of mine..." He grabbed my shirt, pulling me up from the ground.

"I didn't steal anything." I grumbled. It was true, I never stole anything. I always figured out a way to get food under the law. "Right, I'm suppose to believe a streetrat?" He sneered. "Give me back my money, and I might leave here unhurt."

I didn't know what to do. I didn't steal anything and I didn't have any money.... I grabbed his arm and chucked him out of the alley. He changed to a leopard and I copied him. He fought and rolled into the market. He turned back to human, me following him again. I punched him as hard as I could and grabbed him arm, throwing him over me.

The guy landed right in front of a fimilar face. "Angelina!" I gasped. The guy on the ground with a bruised face looked up at her a smiled with one tooth missing. I ignored him, hoping he wasn't an old boyfriend.[/color]

I looked down and shrugged. "I think I prefered the rose." I looked at Clint and couldn't help but smile. I'd never really taken the time to notice that he was incredibly handsome. "You're not a very good people-person, are you?" I joked, dusting him off a bit, "I see you've recovered from that shock that you had yesterday evening." I blushed a bit, what was wrong with me around him? I just all of a sudden felt butterflies in my stomach and I couldn't stop smiling. I was in too far, but I didn't think anyone could pull me out.

"Hey babe, what are you doing with a streetrat like this guy?" A man came up behind me, putting his arm around my waist. I jerked away from him. "Don't touch me." I said sternly. The man was drunk. "Come on, sweetheart, you know you want to have some fun." He put his hand on my face. I pushed it away. "I told you, don't touch me." I repeated. "But babe, come on. I won't bite." He continued to harass me and I continued to tell him not to touch me. I didn't back down, I just stood there. His friends came around me, all drunk. I could've shifted, but I didn't. I just continued to tell them to back off. I wanted to see how Clint would react.

I half smiled from her comment about yesterday. I was still a little shocked I guess. I saw the guy by me and clenched my fists. Where in the hell did all these random guys come from? I saw as a circle surrounded her.

I couldn't take it anymore, I formed into a Tiger. My eyes were blazing blue reflecting of my orange and black stripes. My claws dug into the ground and I leaped toward Angelina, landing right in front of her. I curved my body around her, circling her. I watched all the men with hard eyes, waiting for anything.

One took a step forward and I roared with anger. He ran away quickly. I looked at the others as if it was a dare for them to come closer. All I need is a superman costume. I thought.

I looked at Clint and smiled. The other men took off soon after. "My hero." I smiled, waiting for him to turn into human form. When he did I leaned in and kissed his cheek. I heard gasps coming from different people in the crowd. Then I remembered, they probably didn't assume I'd do such a thing. They all pretended nothing happened, going back to their routines as I went and sat down.

"I don't know what I would've done without you there, you know. Any other guy would've taken off, shapeshifter or not. Hmm, maybe you are different." I looked at the ground, I was blushing again. Damnit, damnit, damnit! Why was I so lovestruck!?
